Handing over the car
The license check, the walk-around, and the keys.
Updated October 10, 2026
Before you hand over
- Remove your personal belongings, and any firearms or other weapons.
- Clean the car and check fuel or charge.
- Make sure registration and proof of insurance are in the car.
At the handoff
- Check the guest’s license. It must be current and valid, match the name on the reservation, and the photo should appear to match the person in front of you.
- Only hand the car to the renter or to a driver added to the trip. If someone else shows up, do not hand over the car. The trip can be treated as a guest no-show.
- Do the check-in together on the trip page. Take photos, record fuel or charge and odometer. See Check-in and check-out.
- Explain how the car works, any quirks, and your house rules.
- Confirm the return place and time.
Apart from what you need to check the license, do not collect other documents or personal information from the guest.
Keyless handoffs
If you offer remote or keyless access, follow Seifly’s requirements for it and still complete the check-in photos. See Connecting a Tesla.
