Cancellation policy

Last revised: October 8, 2026 · Applies to trips booked on rental.seifly.app and listed on host.seifly.app

This policy explains what happens to your money when a trip is cancelled, whether you are the renter or the host. It is part of the Seifly Terms of Service. All times are based on the time zone where the vehicle is located.

Renter cancellations

If your plans change, message your host and then cancel from your trip page on the website or in the app. A cancellation takes effect the moment you confirm it. How much you get back depends on when you cancel, how long the trip is, and whether the booking was made as a non-refundable trip.

Seifly authorizes your card when you request a trip and only charges it once the host accepts. If a host declines or never responds, the authorization is released and you are not charged.

Full refund

Free cancellation period

  • You can cancel for free up to 24 hours before the trip starts.
  • If you book a trip that starts in less than 24 hours, you have 60 minutes after booking to cancel for free.
  • Non-refundable trips have a 24-hour grace period right after booking, and after that no refund applies.

Changing your trip

Asking the host to change your dates or times does not restart the free-cancellation clock. The deadline stays tied to your original booking and the original start time.

Dirty, damaged, or unsafe vehicle at pickup

If the car you find is not clean or not safe to drive, you get a full refund as long as you decline the vehicle, do not start the check-in, and contact Seifly support right away with photos. If you check in and drive off, this protection no longer applies.

Cancelling together with the host

When you and the host agree to cancel, and the conversation in Seifly messages supports it, you receive a full refund.

Partial refund

Cancelling after the free period

If you cancel after the free-cancellation period ends, we refund part of the trip:

  • Trips longer than 2 days: you get back the trip price and service fee, minus the average daily price of the trip (one day).
  • Trips of 2 days or fewer: you get back the trip price and service fee, minus half of the average daily price.
  • Your protection plan, extras, security deposit, and any young-driver fee are refunded in full.
  • Half of any delivery fee is refunded.

Renter no-show

You are a no-show if you do not cancel and do not arrive within 120 minutes of the trip start. It also counts as a no-show if you cannot complete identity or license verification at pickup, you do not have a valid license, or someone else (including a driver who was not added to the trip) shows up in your place.

  • Trips longer than 2 days: you get back the trip price and service fee minus the average daily price for two days.
  • Trips of 2 days or fewer: you get back the trip price and service fee minus 75% of one day's average price.
  • Protection plan, extras, security deposit, young-driver fee, and half of the delivery fee are returned.

Exceptions

These amounts can change when something outside your control is involved, such as a delayed or cancelled flight or train, lost baggage, a vehicle that was not clean or safe, documented proof that you completed check-in verification, or other extenuating circumstances. Contact support and we will review it.

No refund

  • Returning the car early does not earn a refund, unless you asked to shorten the trip and the host approved it before the return.
  • Cancelling a non-refundable trip after its 24-hour grace period.

Trips cancelled by the host, host no-shows, or Seifly

  • If the host cancels, or does not cancel and does not show up within 30 minutes of the start, you receive a full refund. The amount stays available as credit for 24 hours so you can book another car quickly; anything unused returns to your original payment method automatically.
  • If Seifly's trust and safety team cancels a trip, you receive a full refund.

Flight or train delays, cancellations, and lost baggage

  • Message your host as soon as you know and ask for a new pickup time.
  • If the host cannot accommodate the change and you can document the problem (for example, a screenshot from your airline app or a photo of the departures board), you receive a full refund.
  • Tell the host at least 1 hour before the scheduled start, and let Seifly know within 24 hours of the start.
  • Delays or cancellations announced more than 3 days ahead are not covered, because there is time to rebook.
  • For lost or delayed luggage, tell the host promptly and keep proof of the report.

Host cancellations

Hosts should message the renter first and then cancel from the website or app. The cancellation is immediate and the renter receives a full refund.

Host cancellation and no-show fees

  • Cancellation fees. $50 if the host cancels less than 24 hours before the trip starts, and $25 if they cancel 24 hours or more before it starts. Some exceptions apply (see below).
  • Reviews and penalties. Every host cancellation adds an automatic note to the listing. Repeated cancellations without a valid reason can lead to reduced search ranking, further penalties, and removal from Seifly.
  • Safety or comfort concerns. A host who feels unsafe, harassed, or has a concern about a renter can cancel and choose that reason. Seifly support is notified and follows up.
  • Cancelling together. If the renter and host cancel by mutual agreement, the host earns nothing, even on a non-refundable trip.
  • Pro Hosts. The cancellation fee is waived, but the listing note still appears and cancellation metrics are still affected.
  • Host no-show fee. $150 if the host does not cancel and does not arrive within 30 minutes of the start.

Host earnings when a renter cancels or doesn't show

  • Renter cancels after the free period. For trips longer than 2 days, the host earns about one day of average earnings; for trips of 2 days or fewer, about half a day, plus half of the delivery fee.
  • Non-refundable trip cancelled after the grace period. The host receives the trip earnings minus Seifly's fees.
  • Renter no-show. For trips longer than 2 days the host earns two days of average earnings; for shorter trips, 75% of one day. Extras and half of the delivery fee go back to the renter.
  • Reporting a no-show. Hosts must report it within 72 hours. After that, earnings can be withheld and a fee may apply.

Host earnings when Seifly cancels

When Seifly cancels a trip, the host earns one day of average earnings for trips longer than 2 days, or half a day for shorter trips. No earnings are paid if the cancellation happens very soon after the booking was made or very far ahead of the trip start.

Host trips affected by a renter's travel delay

When a renter reports a delay, the host should make a good-faith effort to move the pickup and keep the conversation in Seifly messages. If no new time works and the trip is cancelled, the host may be paid as for a renter no-show. A host who does not try to accommodate the renter receives nothing.
