When you are charged
The difference between an authorization hold and a charge, and when each happens.
Updated October 10, 2026
Authorization first, charge on acceptance
When you send a request, Seifly asks your card issuer to authorize the trip amount. An authorization reserves the money on your card but does not take it. You are charged only after the host accepts.
- Host accepts: the trip is charged and confirmed.
- Host declines or does not respond: the authorization is released. You are not charged.
- You cancel before the host answers: the authorization is released.
Why you may still see a pending amount
A released authorization can stay on your statement as “pending” for several business days. That is your bank’s timing, not ours. The money is not taken, and it disappears on its own.
Other holds around the trip
- If a security deposit applies, it is held on your card but not charged. It is released after your trip. See Security deposits.
- Around the start of a trip an additional authorization may be placed to cover a deductible, tolls, or other incidentals.
Seifly uses Stripe to process payments. Your full card number is never shown to hosts.
