Taking photos that support a claim

What reviewers look for, and how to photograph damage so it can be judged.

Updated October 10, 2026

  1. Photograph the damage as soon as you see it, in good light.
  2. Take one wide photo that shows where on the car it is, then close-ups from two angles.
  3. Include something for scale, such as a coin or a ruler.
  4. Photograph the area around it. Reviewers look for related marks, such as paint transfer.
  5. Photograph the whole car, so reviewers can compare it with the check-in.
  6. Add the odometer and the date, if you can.

Photos from the check-in show what was there before the trip. Without them, it’s hard to prove the damage is new. See Check-in and check-out inspections.
