Mileage limits and extra miles
Check how many miles are included, and what happens if you go over.
Updated October 10, 2026
Each host decides whether their car has a daily mileage limit. The listing shows the limit, or says the mileage is unlimited. Check it before you book, especially for a road trip.
How the limit works
- The limit is a number of miles per day of your trip. A multi-day trip adds up the daily allowance.
- If the host chose unlimited miles, no extra-mile fee applies.
- If you drive more than the total allowed, the host may charge a fee for each extra mile. The per-mile fee is set by the host on the listing.
How extra miles are measured
Your miles are the difference between the odometer reading at check-in and at check-out. This is why it matters to record the odometer accurately in both. The host files the number of miles over the limit and the per-mile fee is applied. See Tolls, extra miles, and other trip charges.
Planning a long drive
- Estimate your total distance and compare it with the allowance for your dates.
- Ask the host before the trip if you think you may go over. They may agree a different arrangement in the trip messages.
- Pick a car with unlimited miles for long trips.
