Vehicle and location data

What connected cars and the app can share during a trip, and who can see it.

Updated October 10, 2026

Some cars on Seifly share information with us during a trip, and the app can use your phone’s location when you allow it.

What may be shared

A car’s location, mileage, speed, fuel or battery level, lock status, tire pressure, and diagnostic and damage records, and, if you allow it, your phone’s location during a trip.

How it is used

  • To run the trip, confirm pickup and return, and keep people safe.
  • To investigate incidents and claims, prevent theft and fraud, and handle support requests.
  • A host cannot use vehicle location to follow you beyond what the trip needs.

Who can see it

You and the host on the trip, limited to what the trip needs, and Seifly and our service providers. We may share it with law enforcement, insurers, and claims partners where the law allows or an incident requires it.

Your choices

You can turn off location permission in your device settings. Some features, such as a safe check-in, may not be available without it. Hosts must tell you in the listing when a car has technology that locates, monitors, or can disable it. See Connected-vehicle and location data.
