If the car is stolen or goes missing
What you must do within hours and why speed matters.
Updated October 10, 2026
If the car you booked is stolen or goes missing during your trip, act immediately.
- Call the police and report it as soon as you discover it, and no later than 12 hours after.
- Return the original key to the host straight away.
- Report it to Seifly through Trip support and message your host.
- Cooperate fully with the host, law enforcement, and Seifly.
How a car can end up reported stolen
A car can be reported to law enforcement as stolen if it is not returned at the agreed time and place, if you keep it beyond the reservation without an approved extension, or if the person driving gave false details or took the keys without permission. This can expose you and any other driver to arrest and civil or criminal penalties, and can void your protection plan.
If a car you are responsible for is not returned, the primary renter pays the reasonable costs, including investigation and administration, that Seifly considers necessary to recover it.
