Personal car insurance and credit card coverage
Whether your own insurance or your card’s benefits help on a Seifly trip.
Updated October 10, 2026
Your own insurance may help, but do not assume it does. Ask first.
Personal auto insurance
- Your policy may cover damage to the car you booked, and you agree to work with Seifly to make a claim under any policy that applies.
- Depending on the law and the situation, your policy may be primary over the coverage provided with a trip.
- Many policies exclude short-term or peer-to-peer rentals. Ask your insurer in plain words: “Does my policy cover a car I rent from a private owner through an app?”
Credit card benefits
Card rental-car benefits often cover only traditional rental companies, not private owners. Read your card’s benefit guide or call the issuer before you rely on it.
Still the primary renter’s responsibility
The primary renter is financially responsible for damage during the trip unless a protection plan or another policy covers it. See Protection plans for guests.
