Breakdowns and mechanical problems
What to do when the car stops working or a warning light comes on.
Updated October 10, 2026
- Pull over somewhere safe, switch on the hazard lights, and get everyone out of danger if needed.
- Do not keep driving a car that feels unsafe or has a serious warning light.
- Message your host and describe the problem. Hosts know their cars and can often advise.
- Report it to Seifly through Trip support, with photos of the warning light, dashboard, or damage.
- Keep receipts for towing or repair that you arrange and discuss them with the host and support before you pay anything.
A breakdown is not automatically your fault
Mechanical failures that are not caused by misuse are generally the host’s responsibility, since hosts must keep their cars safe and roadworthy. Protection plans do not cover mechanical damage, so be careful not to continue driving after a warning.
If a mechanical failure cuts your trip short, tell Seifly. We review these case by case, including any refund for the unused part of the trip.
