Nondiscrimination policy
Last revised: October 8, 2026
Seifly is built on trust between neighbors. Our community is strongest when everyone who uses it feels welcome, and that means every host and renter is treated with the same respect, whoever they are. Discrimination has no place here, and this policy explains what it means in practice. It is part of the Seifly Terms of service.
Protected characteristics
Seifly users may not treat another person differently because of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, age, national origin, residence or geographic location, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender, military or veteran status, disability, familial status, or marital or parental status. This applies to every part of a trip: deciding whether to list a vehicle or accept a booking, how a vehicle is priced, how a conversation is handled, what happens at pickup and return, and how a review is written.
Seifly hosts may not
- Decline a booking request, or cancel a confirmed trip, because of a protected characteristic.
- Set different prices, deposits, conditions, or rules for a renter because of a protected characteristic.
- Send messages, post a listing, or write a review that discourages or prefers renters based on a protected characteristic.
- Ask a renter about their protected characteristics, or comment on them, before or during a trip.
- Treat a renter differently at pickup or return, or refuse to hand over a vehicle, because of a protected characteristic.
Seifly renters may not
- Refuse a vehicle or a host, or cancel a trip, because of the host’s protected characteristics.
- Harass or demean a host or another renter, in messages, reviews, or in person, because of a protected characteristic.
Gender identity and sexual orientation
People may use Seifly under the name and gender they live by. A host may not decline or cancel a trip because a renter’s gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation is different from what the host expected, or because the host disagrees with it. If a renter’s documents show a different name or gender than they present, the host should contact Seifly support rather than refuse the trip.
Disability
Hosts and renters must not make assumptions about someone’s ability to drive or use a vehicle because of a disability, and must not decline or cancel a trip for that reason. A host may not ask a renter about the nature or extent of a disability. Hosts must allow reasonable accommodations, such as a service animal traveling with the renter, and must not charge extra fees for it. Seifly may help hosts and renters find a workable solution when the vehicle itself cannot accommodate a need.
Familial status
Hosts may not decline or cancel a trip because a renter is traveling with children, is pregnant, or is in the process of adopting or gaining custody of a child. Hosts may require safe, legal use of the vehicle for everyone, such as seat belts and child seats where the law requires them, but may not use family status to treat a renter differently.
Personal preference and legitimate reasons
A host may decline or cancel a trip for reasons that are not tied to a protected characteristic, such as concerns about a renter’s verified driving record, an unsafe or unlawful request, a credible safety concern, or a violation of our Policies. A host may also make reasonable, equally applied rules about the vehicle, for example no smoking. A host may not use a preference, even a sincerely held one, as a reason to treat renters differently on the basis of a protected characteristic.
What happens when a member does not follow these policies
Seifly investigates every report of discrimination. Depending on what we find, we may remove content, reduce a listing’s visibility, cancel a trip, suspend or permanently remove an account, and in serious cases cooperate with authorities. We may also ask members to complete a review of this policy before they can continue to host or rent. Seifly’s measures in this policy are in addition to any rights people have under local, state, or federal law.
We may also act on our own, for example when a pattern of cancellations or declines suggests discrimination, even if no one has reported it.
How to report discrimination to Seifly
If you believe you have experienced or seen discrimination on Seifly, please tell us as soon as you can. Send the details, including the trip, the people involved, and any messages or screenshots, to support@seifly.app, or reach us through the Help Center. We will review what you send, may ask for more information, and will let you know when we have taken action. We do not retaliate against anyone who reports in good faith, and neither may another member.
